Apologies, this is in the wrong category, but I didn't know where to put it.
I have done a stupid thing and posted a DVD off to someone before I received payment for it. It was four days ago, the weather was horrendous but I had to walk to the post office anyway, to post something else, so I checked their feedback (which was 100 per cent positive) and decided to take a chance that they would pay.
I haven't been in touch with them yet, to ask them to pay, and I expect that by now they will have received the DVD.
So, do I just write this off, due to my stupidity, or message them and ask them to pay up, or does anyone have any suggestions please?
Thanks craft. The thing is though, if they then decide to leave me negative feedback in retaliation (the barstewards, it would be totally uncalled for) it c0cks up my impeccable feedback record. [:o(

I know how you feel - my feedback is 100% too and because of the buyers error, I ended up with a blemished record (Grrrrr)
Did you post the item by recorded delivery? - at least then you'd know for sure if they'd received it, if not then i'd agree with craft
I would give it a day or two then I would ask for the payment
I have sent off before payment is made,by mistake. I find many people are honest
My gripe is the fact that buyers can leave a neg. feedback on E bay but sellers can't I had a 100% feedback till a Canadian buyer decided to give me a negative but I could not retaliate SOOO annoying
I haven't darren, I'm wondering if four days is long enough to deduce that they're not gonna pay.
Craft, I'd still have the red negative sign on my record though, unless ebay would remove it. I've never had any trouble with ebay before so I don't know if they would be willing to remove it. I expect they'll tell me I was stupid to send before payment (which I was). I wouldn't have sent it early if the weather had been normal (well, you know what I mean).
Whilst you have left yourself wide open to losing it, I'd suggest the first thing to do is get in touch with them, which you say you haven't done yet. Appreciate it seems unlikely but it's always possible they haven't received it yet. They may not be home, for instance. Check things out before jumping to conclusions.
Can understand one's first negative feedback is a bit of a downer, but any reasonable person will check out the details of a negative (you are allowed to respond) since anyone can have the misfortune of getting an unfair feedback. If you do a lot of trading a single negative won't affect you much. If you do little you can always register again under a different name. But the best thing is to just take it in your stride.
mrs c i think the red will go after a year,what some of the people do is sell a few cheap items to friends or false accounts to push the negatve down the page.
I would right to them at least 3 times and don't delete your sent messages......if you get negative feedback I would appeal to ebay to (a) delete the feedback and (b) blacklist the buyer......
To be honest, I'm not bothered about losing the money (a couple of quid), it just annoys me that somebody would rip me off by not paying.
I didn't send it by recorded delivery but I might have a certificate of posting. I've sold a lot of things recently (house-move to a smaller property coming up). I've learned a lesson, mind.
Remember that you don't always need a written certificate of posting - a number on your receipt with a couple of dashes in it is all that Royal Mail need as it's the same number that would be on the printed postage label that you sent from the post office (hope that makes sense)
