Fashionable furniture.

I am beginning to follow in my parent's (grandparents and great-grandparents) business of furniture dealer, particularly in antiques. But compared to my parents I have a much more modern edge, and want to follow the fashions at good prices.
Is there anything you've seen recently in the furniture fashion world that you particularly like, or would be likely to buy?
I'm working on swatches (pretty painted picture frames with material inside), ladies fob watches attached to necklaces, and vintage cup and saucers filled with scented candle.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What you are suggesting sound very pretty, but you need to think of your target audience as we come out of a recession. I couldn't afford to buy any of those pretty things at the moment. We were talking at work today about older furniture and how it is so much better made than the stuff we have been buying from Homebase etc - Ercol and similar are very popular because they are so well made. If it were me starting up I would look at furniture which can be refurbished with a modern edge, different finishes and colours, but go for basic items which everyone needs, rather than the pretty extras.

I'm not quite that far ahead yet.
My target audience probably would be the 'younger generation' (16-35) people who normally would go to ikea, but as you say suggesting this much more sustainable idea of buying older furniture. Of a cooler, retro style. Which is becoming very popular nowadays.
I may try furniture in the future, but due to little money of my own, struggling to find a job, I'm hoping smaller items may work.
But by all means, I may trawl around for a few bigger pieces, I have my first antique fair in october. And hoping to have myself up and running by then.
This will only be a hobby, and is not my long term goal.
