Never used eBay before and just trying to sell an item. They now insist on a postage cost and my item weighs about 100kg. Do I just put 'courier' and a cost to cover it? (I've ticked 'Buyer can collect') What happens if the buyer is outside the UK - do I just not accept the bid?

I realsise that the answers to the above are probably somewhere on eBay but it's a bit of a minefield!

Use this link to work out your postage (you can add just a little extra for cost of packaging materials)
You can choose to sell just to the UK or Worldwide.
If you can't find the right boxes, state it in your listing, that this item is for sale to the UK only.
you could in future make it "local pick up only" or put in the listing how much it weighs and say "or arrange your own courrier" . You can't chose what bids to "accept" so make it clear in the posting that you only accept bids from uk
Hi Count....Am I reading the weight correctly...100 Kilograms? Thats nearly 16 stone...how the hell are you going to post that anywhere... Just put Collection Only on your E-bay sale
For very heavy items (like this one), to find the correct way to list, when you get to
DOMESTIC POSTAGE
underneath that title, are the words: Flat: Same cost to all buyers, (which has
a drop down box next to it), on the dropdown click on No Postage, Pick Up Only.
I have sold items on ebay from the UK to europe and bought items on Ebay from the UK whilst living in France. Ebay in europe has very little available and a lot of europeans 'foreigners' buy from the UK and pay good prices too, so do not rule out europe. DHL are good for large items, they charge on a volume basis unless the item is heavier than their standard weight/ volume formula, then they charge by weight. You can get the cost off their website. I have tried to buy items from the UK and couldn't because the vendors had UK only delivery. Since I would pay delivery and would have bid more than they got they missed out. So, go for european delivery and let the buyer pay. It took me ages to get the hang of the ebay postal procedures and I've forgotten it already so can't help with details.
I sold jacket on Ebay the other day and they actually set the maximum amount I was allowed to charge for postage, seems reasonable enough you might say, until the amount they set is actually less than the amount they will allow you to charge for postage in the first place.....
No I mean the max you can set is actually less than the amount it costs to post the item....
This is how to block overseas buyers from bidding on your item.
Go to your My eBay page
on the left, there are three headings, Activity/Messages/Account
click on Account, then look for Site Preferences
look for Buyer Requirements and click on SHOW
check/tick the box that says: Block buyers whose primary shipping address is in a
location I don't ship to
click on SUBMIT

Thanks to all for your input.

The Winner - There is no 'Flat: Same cost to all buyers' option under 'domestic postal services' - any advice?
If you can't find that (it's there on mine), in the same place as these postal options, is
OFFER ADDITIONAL SERVICE, click on that, and there should be a box for you to
check/tick that says LOCAL PICK UP Buyers can pick up the item from you.
If you can't find some options, if would appear that your settings arent quite right. However, as you are new to ebay, I don't want to confuse you, do each listing one at a time, you will learn as you go along.
Look tell me what you're selling and if I like it I'll nip round and pick it up.....

mmm strange. I've ticked 'Buyers can pick up the item from you', but theres deffo no 'Flat same rate to all buyers' option. Theres one called 'Sellers standard rate'.

Anyway thanks for your input. Much appreciated.

Craft - there's no way it will fit in your Smartmobile!
The options that show, are specific to you and what you have selected.
Try this. On your form, get to the part that says:
Give Buyers P&P Details Add or Remove Options Get Help
(this title is just above Domestic Postage)
Click on Get Help, scroll down to Related Topics, Specifying Flat Postage Costs, Add this option.
