Purchasing Shares on the Internet

Does anyone know any websites were I can purchase Shares? 

Is there a fee for purchasing shares on the Internet?

There are ways of doing it Mowbray, and your best bet is to click on the link below which will list a number of different brokers:

The cost of doing it varies and usually contains flat fees, and an upkeep percentage.  It is a good way of buying shares if you are fairly "recreational" about it, though you won't have the immediacy of a broker on the end of the phone.  Also, sniff out the deal that is most suitable to you, taking into account how regularly you want to trade etc. (by the way, I am presuming you are based in the UK).

The above site is very very good. Also, in ye olden days when I did this type of thing I found that "imiweb" were one of the cheaper brokers. Obviously shop around for the best deal. I'm just saying count them as an option rather than stop looking now:

I use Halifax Sharebuilder - you do not need to have any other accounts with the Halifax but it is very cheap and easy to use.  Check it out on the Halifax site.  www.halifax.co.uk  Hope this helps!
