Ebay

i sell things on ebay , have been for a few years , but a week ago i sold items to a guy , everything was checked and packed (lots of items ) a few days later i received an email saying there was something missing (the product was worth £50) .
he won the listing at 99p with only £30 for postage , the other items and the one he said was missing was in the value of £300+ , he wanted his money back and ebay have said he has to return it 1st that was over a week ago and i still haven't got it back .
What i would like to know is can he go to a claim and make me pay him before i receive them , i don't think he had any intentions of paying in the 1t place as i have looked up his address and the 1st line was significantly different to the one on google maps when i put in the postcode , same area but his address did not exist.
I think (not fact) that his intentions were he was hoping i never sent it recorded delivery and he would have said he never received it.

Hi hc4361 , i only have to refund one postage and that is the one he paid at 1st , which is a relief as ebay have just changed the policy and that is in it to protect sellers , although when and if i receive the items i will in fact have to bin them for hygiene purposes , i would not like to resell incase they have infact been used . although if any i dont think all will come back :-( . Hi eddie that is my biggest fear as he has already said one was missing (that won't come back ) .
Yes , it was confirmed though as he must get his stuff though the postcode , the area is small (only a few houses ) the only reason i checked it up was that my b/f works in the area and was going to suggest he picked it up (checking everything was in order and package was full as when packed there was no room for anything else so would have known right away if something was missing .used recorded (glad i did), he went straight to ebay and claimed .

i to have been selling on ebay for a number of years and have recently noticed a sharp increase in the number of parcels not arriving at their destination or not being as described and refunds being requested.
I recently sold a pair of boot cut jeans to a woman who then went on to claim for weeks that the item had not arrived and went on to open a case against me, i provided the postage details and she then went on to open a case requesting a refund due to the jeans not being as described, she claimed the bootcut jeans were more of a flare cut than boot cut even though they had boot cut printed on the inside of the waistband, i offered her a refund once the jeans had been returned and she never bothered to send them back or close the open case.
There are more and mopre people on there trying to rip you off which in turn has made me now put my postage costs up to pay for the item to be recorded and insured.
Do not give any refunds until you have received the items back, this man is trying to con you out of the money, you'll give him the refund and then the parcel will get lost in the post on its way to you!

thanks eddie , yes done all the reading , although now that us sellers can't leave bad feedback it's now difficult to find out , if he doesn't leave feedback most sellers won't if they have been an ass , the feedback he has got looks ok , 1 bad and 1 neutral in 12 months although only 97.9% rating ,i have 2 negative and 2 neutral and have 99.7% so not sure how they actually work it out in the end lol , oh he buys a lot of nuts and bolts :-) .
That's very true danchip, i had it done to me twice last year hence my 2 negative , a guy had bought something and then told ebay it was all battered and bashed said it wasnt packaged properly .. but also told ebay it wasn't working as he had tried it in his car hmmm yeah i would hook something up in my car if it was all battered lol , he got to keep it and ebay charged me the amount for a full refund.

Refund information:
You need to issue a refund of £30.99 through PayPal when the item is delivered.
Your return address:,i cant find the 1st one i read which says , the item price and initial postage , it has not long been updated as discussed above i think ebay have also seen the number of people saying they haven't got it or not as described , this is their new seller protection .

i dont think it is ebay protecting the sellers, its common practise to withold a refund until you have received the item, any company which trades online expects you to return the item before issuing a refund.
Unfortunately ebay has steered towards protecting the buyer and hanging the seller out to dry

They don't care they take our money for listing things then again when it is sold , we need to use paypal to protect us and they screw us too lol
i have been onto the case and the buyer has issused a tracking number i maybe being thick but this is just number tracking has letters too am i correct
The buyer has provided tracking information. 17 Oct, 2010 at 10:21
Delivery tracking number
1367663
1 thing i just realized if he does send back with things missing , unless he puts something in the package to make it heavier the weight will be different :-)

I also sell and buy on ebay.
However, I am a private seller and have learnt to send everything recorded or special delivery.
But, as a buyer there have been two occasions recently when the item I purchased didn't turn up. One was a business seller who claimed back via the post office for loss.
The other was a private seller, the item didn't arrive and they gave a refund very quickly and no postal claim was made. This leads me to believe that the item I purchased didn't make the price they wanted, so they didn't actually send it.

chickadee; you have highlighted another problem which is sweeping through ebay, its so annoying when you've got a great bargain it doesn't turn up and the seller gives a refund without any questions, they could atleast try and hide the fact that they weren't happy with the price and never actually sent it.
You can see why the number of people using ebay is declining

just says number too short needs to be 13 and all i have is 7 , believe me i thought about doing that , but i am a fair person , his comeuppance for being an ass and probably doesn't realise yet that i only give him back what he has paid ,
both parties in this case are going to be out of pocket not just one , if the products were infact not what they were described i would have had no hassle in refunding all including extra delivery prices.
chickadee not all the time this is the case i have gave refunds and never bothered chasing them up only because it is alot of hassle and don't get results for weeks sometimes months , i.e if it was something cheap then it's not worth the hassle .
