rear projection or plasma television

I asked a question about the pros/cons of rear projection TV and it seems that if you move you can't see the picture. This seems rather a no no.

If money was no object would you buy plasma or rear projection television or something else (as long as it had a large screen)

There is alot of talk about the life expectancy of plasma, i would definitely hold off on that option. Rear projection has improved greatly over the last few years although there are still some that can't be viewed from an angle. If I were to buy one, it would probably have to be LCD, just like flat panel computer screens. These can easily be viewed from a good angle.

used to work for sony and was told plasma screen tv have a life expextancy of 6 years due  to the gas used in the screen have also come across tv s which have fallen over in transit stillin box being returned  for no other reason than if you put a plasma tv on its side or upside down it affects them according to technicians in the service departmeny

caramba - not sure if you misunderstood the previous postings: When sitting arounf the tv, there is absolutely no problem with the picture quality of the rear projection. When I get up to leave the room, if I am standing up and glance at the tv, there is a loss of picture - I can still see it, but wouldn't be happy watching a film like it. As I said, this is only when you stand up, and personally speaking I sit down to watch tv.

That said, in answer to this question, 'if money were no object', then it would be without doubt a plasma.

When my tv breaks though, I will be honest I would probably get another rear projection (as money is an object to me).

The real advantage that plasmas have is the fact that they take up very little room - i spoke to a salesman about this - they said that if you are going to put a plasma in a corner where you would normally put a TV its a waste of money - only get a plasma if space is an issue!

I'm not sure that the above posts mentioning life expectancy are quite true - I was for a while going to buy a plasma and looked at various reviews etc on the net - the above theories were debunked - but I don't reallt know that much about them!

I would have to go with Peanut on a LCD TV, they used to be limited with screen size but now you can get large screens, bit expensive though!

LCD tvs are not so good being viewed at an angle, the screens are too reflective. I purchased a plasma recently. There are pros and cons with these too. The life expectancy should not be a problem as my HItachi is guaranteed to give at least 60,000 hours. It has fantastic picture and sound quality most of the time. However, on some plays & soaps the picture can ghost a bit if a person is close to camera and moves fast. Although On films and live broadcasts its great.

I agree with earlier poster though, now I have one and its in the corner I wish I had saved money and got a normal big screen tv. Still hindsight
