How is that Poundland can sell it's Maltesers, Blue Ribands, Kit-Kats for £1, when...

the Supermarkets sell them at a higher price, I have often wondered how they do this?
Tea bags ect, all branded goods, are they inferior goods???
I have never shopped in there but could be tempted to, just curious

Im probably alone in this but most of the time when I walk around a pound shop there is begger all that I want, even though they sell a lot of stuff :S

I'm the same Cazzzz. I've walked round it loads of times. Never bought anything though. Wilkos is much better...plus it's right next to Tescos :-)

lol ummm, I thought it was just me who walked around the shop and left without buying anything, yet they sell a lot of stuff, I just dont seem to have any need for it as of yet

I very rarely go into £1 store as there isn't very many near me, but when I do go I just buy coffee, paper plates, plastic cutlery and napkins for our Xmas do's at work.

Big supermarkets need an assured supply of its goods. Poundland buy 'by the pallet', container load or weight. They have no idea what they are going to get and sometimes they strike lucky with grey imports or near date foodstuffs.

Graham-W: "British" Rowntrees hasn't existed for many years. The company is Nestle which has manufacturing facilities in many countries - which is why much of their stuff is made abroad.

I have found that the really cheap KitKats in Poundstretchers are a bit stale (although still in date). I'd rather go for special offers in other food shops (who specialise in foods) - the big rip off is our local factory shop where 4-finger kitkats are 90p, and they are 85p at the railway station - I can get three for that in our post office!

I haven't read all the thread...but I read an article about Poundland recently-and apparently they buy excess stock that the manufactures what to get rid of quickly. It's not short-dated...there is nothing wrong with any of it. Sometimes it may be an order meant for another chain-which was then cancelled for some reason.
