Where can I buy cheap LED household light bulbs?

Sorry if this question has been answered before, but really need to know where to buy some cheap LED light bulbs. Have just managed to get through £10 of electric credit in one week even though there is only 2 of us in a small house, and we are always switching things off the whole time. Can any of you ABers tell me the best place to buy LED light bulbs? Be warned though, not all of them are 240 volts, and most of them are screw type connection, not the Bayonet Connection. I do not mind coloured bulbs, but do mind paying £25 plus per light bulb.

Hope you will be able to point me in the right direction of affordable LED BC bulbs.

At £10 per week, this works out at £1.40 per day. On a pre-pay meter, you are probably paying around 14p per kWh (if not a bit more). But even at 14p per kWh, leaving a 60W bulb on all day for 24 hours would cost you 20 pence. So your lights are unlikely to be the cause of your £1.40 per day electricity usage.

Based on my figures, you are using approximately 10 kWh per day. If you have electric heating, this would more than explain this usage. Also having an electric immersion heater (at 3kW) could easily use this amount of energy.

My advice on cutting your electricity usage is to look at cutting down on the heavy electrical load items (heaters/cookers etc), rather than light bulbs which do not use much energy (even if not low energy types).

I have just got bulbs from them, but they are not very bright. Will have to wait til nightfall to get the full effect from them.

The low-energy bulbs are not as bright, jonny - it takes a while to get used to them.

Wilkinsons are the cheapest on the high street for LED replacements for spotlights; they also do a good range of low energy bulbs.
If you buy LEDs try to get 'warm white' rather than 'bright white' unless they're for the kitchen as they do give a very stark light that takes a bit of getting used to.
The low energy bulbs take a while to come on and get lighter after being on for a while.
They're more expensive to buy but should last for a good long time.
