How to Shop for Clothes Online

16:37 Mon 24th May 2010 |

We girls know how difficult it is to find that perfect pair of jeans, and how long you have to search to find them, which is why it’s surprising that new statistics show that more people are shopping online for clothing. This may be because clicking through a webpage can be much easier than rifling through rack after rack of clothes.

Do you shop online?

Consumers across the globe are increasingly swapping the crowded frenzied streets for one-click convenience as online shopping is becoming a safer and more popular option. Over 85% of the world’s online population have used the internet to make purchases, which is up 40% from previous years.

The whole world is connected to the internet, and you just can’t beat the selection. Whether you live in a shopping Mecca or you live miles from any shopping centres, there is simply more choice online.

The things that make shopping a hassle don't exist when you're online shopping for clothes: There are no lines, no crowds, no pushy salespeople and no heavy shopping bags to carry around. You can even have a break from shopping and watch something on the TV or take a walk and come back to it- the internet is a stress free way to get all you want under your own roof.

You can view what fashion clothing celebrities are wearing and compare their looks to the woman’s clothes you find online. A well known website which offers this is ASOS (as seen on screen), which gives you a similar item of clothing to the one that a celebrity has been seen wearing- but for a fraction of the price.

Clothing stores online can be a great place to shop for a variety of styles and designs of apparel and accessories that are rare or otherwise difficult to find in shops. Saving money is seen as the biggest reason for an increase in online clothing shopping, due to the effects of the recession people don’t have as much spare cash to flash. Also if you don’t have to drive to get to the stores you are saving on fuel as well as saving on clocking up mileage in your car.

The convenience of shopping via the web is a great reason to utilize the information superhighway and save time - after all time is money and with the current threats of the credit crunch people don’t have the money to waste. The internet can save you money in many ways such as, many web based outlets offering the chance to use coupons and promotions from newspapers and other advertisements. Also when purchases are made online, the individual will receive additional promotional information, coupons, and other offers in the future that can be used for purchases.

Online shopping statistics:

Women were also more likely to shop in their free time than men, with 75% doing so compared with 53% of men. However men are more likely to have shopped online than women. Nearly six out of ten men in the UK (58%) had ever purchased over the Internet in 2007 compared with just under half of women (48%).

The Internet is no longer a niche technology – it is mass media and an utterly integral part of modern life. As our lives become more fractured and cluttered, it isn’t surprising that consumers turn to the unrivalled convenience of the Internet when it comes buying clothes online.
