Where can I shoot an airpistol in the uk?

I've got a cheap airpistol that I'd like to be able to take out and shoot. just cans and targets, not anything moving.

The law states that I need to carry it covered up and that I can't shoot within 15m of a highway.

I'm assuming that i can shoot on private land with permission, but can I shoot on public land? i.e. parks and woodlands.

If you want to go target shooting, why don't you join a proper Pistol Club, and compete against other people in a safe environment. Shooting an air pistol outdoors, is quite dangerous, even if you are being careful the pellets can ricochet, and could hit a child or an animal. It has just cost me �643 for an operation to save the life of my cat, which was shot in it's own garden, with two small children playing in the next garden. So you can see how dangerous these weapons are.
