I don't know when I'm going to die but I know the six people I want to carry my coffin down the aisle. How do I ensure that these six people are contacted before the funeral and are informed of their duty? They don't all know each other. Thanks.

P.S I also want certain hymns played.

tell your next of kin. Give them a detailed list. They may not follow it but hey its not like you'll know.

I can't do that I can't tell a next of kin cause they'll freak out, my next of kin is my mother
you could write your wishes down and put it with your will. or you could just let your nearest and dearest (or those who will be arranging your funeral) know your wishes. you could also contact the 6 people yourself now and let them know what you want of them. just be aware that no-one has to be a pall bearer if they don't want to... and many people don't want to.

then tell a mate that would tell your mum. I have a list i did. Its just in a drawer somewhere. Went through a morbid stage when a few of my friends died. Not that worried now. Maybe give your mum a sealed envelope and say its just bank and internet passwords incase anything happens to you.
As 4getmenot says,
Your next of kin (or whoever) is under no legal obligation to carry out ANY of your funeral wishes. You cannot guarantee that the persons you wish will be informed of their obligations. You can tell them in advance, but most people would find that a bit morbid, but that might be the only way to get your wishes through, but still doesn't guarantee that your next of kin will carry it out.
PS:~
Any further Funeral wishes(hyms etc) also fall under the same proceedures as above.
We've made arrangements and we have put the details with our Wills, with our solicitor. You do need to ask the people concerned if they are willing to do it - it's a big obligation for someone to do that, and they need to be fit and strong - a sad thing if by the time you go, one of them is themselves unfit to carry out such a big task (or indeed hasn't predeceased you?). I don't think you can decide that it's anyone's "duty" - most people volunteer.
