Day out with a difference

Any suggestions please for a day out on a Saturday at the end of January. Can do London or Essex, but fancy doing something a bit different.
I looked at the Richmond Poppy Factory and also the Chelsea Hospital tour but cant do either of these on a Saturday. Just fancy something other than theatre, boat trip, London Eye, Duck tour or open top bus trip.
Any ideas please??? Even a nice restaurant with a theme that is a little out of the ordinary would be good.

Real Cantonese food and very reasonable - go to Leicester Sq, north side, there's a small street running up into China town (leicester st) - anyway there's a NCP car park on the west side. Opposite there is a super restaurant, Poons (no relation of the Covent Garden Poons or the Poons 100 yards away on Lisle Street.

Plenty in that area of town from the National Gallery, St James (there's a Wren church there that does brass rubbings), St James (and palace), Fortnum and Masons (the Fountain room for tea), Dunhill etc etc, Burlington Arcade; Whitehall isnt that far away - drop into the Savoy to see it after the reconstruction.........

Have a look at South West Trains website. They have 2 for 1 offers at this time of year. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhib is on at the Natural History Museum at the moment. Hampton Court Palace is good for a mooch around. There`s Churchill`s War Rooms, the Museum of London, Kew Gardens. Someone at work told me about a place called the Geoffreye Museum in Hoxton which was supposed to be good. If you`re into music the British Music Experience at the O2 is interesting (that`s on the 2 for 1 offers). If you want an evening themed restaurant and you like Middle Eastern food, Levant restaurant in Wigmore street is good fun and the food`s good. You`ll need to book though.
