Making a mould for casting
5 Answers
I have a gargoyle made of plaster which is about 10 inches square & 3 inches deep. I want to make a mould to cast a copy made from stone cast plaster (it's for indoors)? How would you go about that? Ta.

Thanks for that Naz but I want to avoid the expensive rubber/silicone based one time use methods. Have considered polymorph pellets (friendly plastic in US I think) which can be reused, but was thinking of some sort of sand/oil based recipe that would not absorb the plaster mix in the short time it takes to set.
once the latex has dried make sure that you do 3 or 4 coats of the latex you can use it as a mould, but if using cement or anything heavy you will need to make a blanket. We used expanding foam to cover around the mould (leaving out the base). Cut the foam in half then you have a stong outer layer to add cement.
