A dear friend of mine is trying to locate copies of photographs of his Grandad Thomas Reginald Scott who was Sheriff of Nottingham in 1947. He and his wife Maud Scott escorted the young Princess Elizabeth and the then Lieutenant Phillip Mountbatten when they visited Nottingham.
My friend's mother left him an album of photographs of the visit but over the years 2 photos have 'disappeared' - by what ever means - of his grandfather and grandmother walking by the council offices in Nottingham known as 'Slav' square with the young couple
He has tried everywhere that he can think of to get copis but to no avail can anyone sugget what he can do after all this time?
Is there a local newspaper in Nottingham? They sound like the kind of photographs that would have been published.
If the newspaper has closed down, and a lot of them have, he might be able to see a copy in the local library. A copy of a photograph from a newspaper wouldn't be best quality, but it would be better than nothing.
Just thought of an old local legend about the square, guarding the steps there are two large stone lions which are said to roar a welcome every time a virgin walks by,don't know what it says about the young girls of today but it's a long time since anybody's heard a lion roar in Nottingham
