Where is the best place online to see, search and browse old maps. I am mainly looking for old maps of Europe & the UK. By old I mean pretty much anything pre WW1, and ideally a lot older.
there is a company called Godfrey Maps that publish old OS maps of the UK, I have a couple here and I do think they have a good website too,
http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/
but they don't actually have the maps online, they do some European ones too. We actually sell the early 20th century copies at work and so you could order them from the website:
http://www.whsmith.co...urvey+maps&cat=\Books
but there's quite a delivery wait and alot of them.
If you are searching UK, in addition to the old-maps website mentioned above, many councils also have archival maps on searchable online databases. They are often well hidden on council websites and are under something daft like 'planning'.
Hi Spare Ed.
If you can get up to London, presumably you are not in London, the best place to view old maps is the British Library at St Pancras.
