can anyone tell me some web sites that i can start to research my familt tree with. preferably free ones. thanks

On the daily mirror's website under Weba nd Tecnology, selct Carol Voderman's website choices ( 2nd choice from top) and you should see some websites she has suggested for family trees. It also tells you which ones you have to pay for etc. Hope this helps!

GenesReunited (from the people who brought you FriendsReunited) is a good'un, too.

Genesreconnected (as it is called now) is free to search and you can add your tree but to contact people and use the message boards, you have to pay �7.50 per year.

www.freebmd.org.uk is free but not complete yet (it is a record of births, marriages and deaths from 1837-c1910).

www.familysearch.org.uk has the 1881 census which is free to search.

Most of the other sites (the best ones) you have to pay for.

Scarem I used the freebmd.org.uk site that sammy mentioned and found the wedding details of my great grandparents who my grandmother never knew and we didn't know they had married after her birth. It was a great discovery from the other side of the world! I also used the 1901 census on line which you can search partly for free. I just pay for certificates and specific things but have spent very little. Sammy's other site is good too. Good luck!

Wow - thanks for these sites everyone, I've just been on freebmd & familysearch for about 15 minutes, & already I've found out the names of my great grandmothers parents & the fact that she had 4 siblings.
