NHS impressed me today

I hear a lot about the NHS being a pain in the rear end etc, but today I was really impressed. I had an appointment at the dermatology (sp?) clinic at 10:15 this morning, was seen by 25past. They had a look at a mole on my back and decided that it should be removed as a precautionary measure, I thought, oh great at least a few weeks of worrying now and panicking about it. However, they asked me to go back that afternoon at 3:45, then rung me an hour later saying they were running ahead of time and could I go in earlier. All done now and really impressed :D x

I agree, had a very good experience couple of years ago. Saw GP on a Friday, appointment letter arrived following Friday, appointment with consultant on the Wednesday and invited in for exploratory operation 2 days later. Two weeks later had undergone total hysterectomy.

Roxie, there is nothing at all wrong with the NHS, the nurses, Doctors, Cleaners & all that is involved with your care are fantastic at their work, its the stupid not in touch with life government that have it wrong.

Me too. I rang for an appointment with my GP today, got one within the hour and was seen on time.

That is excellent - there is still good in the system. We were impressed on Sunday, OH cut his hand making breakfast - we went to the local Minor Injuries Unit at 10am, warned of a 45 min wait - but we were out and back home by 11am, all stitched and bandaged. Works well.

Haven't had a bad word to say about the NHS for years.

Had a beauty once when my mum was in local hospital (about 15 years ago) went to visit and she wasn't there. Apologies, they'd moved her to another hospital. 'Didn't you get our phone call?' Obviously flipping not.

I have always been impressed with the NHS - can't remember a bad experience. Was really poorly three years ago and the doc got me a heart appointment that day (nearly died of shock when she rang to tell me - didn't realise my heart had any problems!).

yes, they are good in the main, do a great job, often under lots of stress!...

I've found that the NHS services vary as to what part of the country they are in - I've lived in Surrey, Devon and now near Portsmouth, and I definitely get better treatment in Portsmouth than I did in Surrey. I can usually see my doctor within 48 hours, and he may run a bit late, but that is because he does take the time to listen, it's not just a prescription and out. I attend Queen Alexandra Hospital for 3 different clinics and am very satisfied with the treatment I get. So the NHS have been good to me.

Like some other posters, I have always had good experiences with the NHS. I have an eye condition which, when it 'flares up' needs rapid treatment and the ophthalmic department at our local hospital has never let me down. I was also under the care of the cardiac dept a few years ago and they were brilliant too.
So yeah, in my opinion, the NHS is great!

I used to work in the NHS, both clinically and in management, and my service did a blooming good job. My late Mum received excellent service too, but I have met (and been involved in disciplining) lazy incompetent staff, abusive nurses; and GP's and other doctors who I wouldn't trust to look after a rubber duck and not kill it. My mother in law and other family members have also had appalling service....its like any other organisation, only as good as its monitoring systems and managers.

I agree with all the comments made, Woofgang I also work for the NHS and see good and bad, but yesterday literally surprised me by how quick things went, as I'd never been on the receiving end of care. It really was a nice surprise that I wasn't waiting around for hours and having to wait a few weeks to have the proceedure done x
