In a drunken state the weekend I have managed to organise a St. George day barbeque and inadvertently invited half the village. I need help to arrange some good outdoor games to play, I can only think of apple dunking! any good ideas anyone? P.S. Your all invited.

What about painting/ chalking a great big board on the foor and play human draughts/ chess/ snakes and ladders, etc.  Or some sort of treasure hunt, where the clues are related to great English figures or are associated with St George.

Or ask people to come dressed up as anything to do with England/ St George to win a crate of lager or something, and also a kiddy comp.  The spec would be so wide that nobody would have an excuse not to dress up.

A game that we've played and had us in stitches with laughter: get double the potatoes as there are people playing. I.e. if there are 5 players, get 10 potatoes. Tie a long piece of string around 5 of the potatoes and tie the other end of that string round the player's waists. Place the other potatoes at their feet. The aim of the game is to knock the potatoe on the floor to the finish line, using the potatoe that's swinging between your legs!! Especially funny with old people playing - seeing them thrusting up and down the garden trying to get their potato to the finish line first is hilarious!!

We used to do lots of outdoor stuff years ago when I was a Guide leader.  If you have a large area of land around, you could do a scavenger hunt. Split people into family teams and give them a list of between 5 and 10 items to find, e.g. a leaf skeleton, a feather, a stone with a hole through it. First group back with all items wins a small prize, or points towards a grand prize at the end.

Other games you could try include races, e.g. the old school sportsday favourites of egg and spoon, three legged, sack race, obstacle race, and a caterpillar race (like a 3 legged one but with lots more people).

Welly throwing is good fun if you have enough room - they never go where you expect them to!

Old fashioned party games might be good fun too, e.g. tunnel ball, or the balloon between the knees/matchbox on the nose game.  (I also remember playing one with a long piece of string with a key on the end and you had to thread this through a piece of outer clothing, e.g. a sleeve. Can't remember what it was called though!).

Twister is always good fun, or water bomb fights.

Ta very much for the invite goodsmeister. As an ex-Norton Canesian I can pop in to see my folks and come straight over for some bobbing and wanging. The Chase has been short of good entertainment since Collymore stopped dogging.
