i was once on a flight from Gatwick to Rome and found myself sat next to a young man and his mother. Obviously we chatted and it turned out that we both came from the same town near blackpool; then we discovered he had lived on the same street as me and I lived in the house where he had previously lived for five years!

I had to get my driving licence out to prove it - we couldn't believe it! Have you had any amazing coincidences?

Gosh, I hope he wasn't a confidence trickster or into identity fraud.  Did you show him your passport & credit cards as well..?!

it was in 1981, long before the days of credit card fraud!

We both wrote down the number of the house so that there could be no tomfoolery.

Hey hang on a minute, how old is Derren Brown?!

I have this all the time, even though I come from a small town on the West of Scotland. While staying in a YHA in Melbourne, Australia, I came home late one night after a couple of shandies, and had to show my key and give my name to the guy at the door. Turned out my mother taught him German at a school in Newton Mearns, just outside Glasgow.

And while in Sydney, I hooked up with a Jamaican New Yorker, who used to share a flat there with a guy I went to school with. He thought I was joking when I said I knew this guy, but when I named his older sister, he had to believe me.

This happened to a work colleague. He had some australian friends over to stay. They were friends from a long time ago. they had brought along some photos to share and in one of the photos taken at an open air U2 gig in Australia in which my work colleague saw his next door neighbour standing next to his australian friends. They immediately called the next door neighbour over and he was gobsmacked. The gig was about 2-3 years before this incident and the australian lady swears that she remembers the neighbour from the gig as they were standing next to each other for a while and may even have exchanged pleasantries. what a coincidence!!

Some years ago I was wandering around Shanghai in China totally lost and unable to find my way back to my hotel. I spotted a non Chinese woman, hoped she spoke English and asked her for directions. Like me, she had a Yorkshire accent so we began chatting and it turned out she lived in the next street to me, although we had never seen each other before! We are now firm friends and see each other almost daily.

5 years after leaving the Army my wife and I went to Portugal on holiday.  We stayed in a little known resort known resort and one night found a nice quiet little bar on a backstreet.

Whilst chatting to the British owners it transpired that the bar owner, a former mineworker was a former colleague and godfather to my room mate from training depot!

To digress slightly, I have the same birthday as my father in law and my wife has the same birthday as my father!

Many years ago I went to Florida as a kid, I knew my mate was going with his parents as well around a similar time. I was at a water park one day and swimming quite happily until someone underwater swam into my legs, it was only my mate from back home!
One of my ex boyfriends has the same birthday as me.  His mum's birthday is one day before my mum's and his dad's is one day after my dad's!

Years and years ago, i had a bit of a holiday romance with an Aussie guy I met in Egypt. We wrote, kept in touch for a couple of years, even met up again when i went to Australia, but inevitably there wasn't a future for us as neither of us wanted to take the gamble of moving across the world based on a very short "realtime" knowledge of each other.

About 5 years later, my ex & I, plus our toddler son went into London to audition for Fifteen to One - of all things. We weren't successful (got "tough" questions of course!) and caught the train home from Kings X. This outing in itself was unusual .... neither of us worked in London at the time, and didn't go there unless we had to.

As we were waiting for the train to go out, someone tapped me on the shoulder. Yep ... it was my old aussie boyfriend, pluys his new wife. Lots of rather embarrassing small talk ensued - I knew he had a wife now, but he didn't know I was also attached, with little boy ! They were in the UK and going to Cambridge for the day ..... I had no idea, having lost touch & just think it was quite a co-incidence for us to meet given that that was the only train I went on that year, and that we all ended up in the same carriage as each other.

Just a thought.....people say "it must be a million to one chance of meeting....." well if you think about it, how many people do you pass in the street in just one day and don't think twice about? So maybe during the course of a few months maybe you will have 'seen' a million people you don't know or have a connection with.So statistically it's about right and therefore these situations should happen quite frequently. They say if you put 8 strangers in a room together, within 8 connections someone will know or be related (directly or indirectly) to at least one other person in that room. As I say, just a thought!
i was on holiday somewhere in california (can't remember where exactly) and my family were walking across the huge carpark of our big hotel.  A guy happened to be walking towards us close enough to see that my brother was wearing an england footy shirt.  So he made some comment, we stopped to chat and it eventually turned out he had been taught PE at school by my uncle 20 years ago...
my son, wife and i have consecutive birthdays

a few years ago hubby and i went to a resort in turkey where we spoke to another couple fom the uk.  i asked what town they came from but they said it was very small and i would't know it.  turned out we lived 2 streets apart!
