But I reckon all mothers (more than fathers) believe their child is the most Beautiful thing on this planet although they would probably be willing to admit if their adult child had been hit by a few ugly sticks.

Never really thought about this, but have now after reading this- yes I think I can be subjective enough to list my own older children in order of attractiveness, but with a couple of them it's their personalities that make them attractive when you know them so the order would change from someone being shown a photograph to when they actually met them- if that makes sense.
For myself with anyone I really don't care what they look like, just what they are like as people- you can get some really ' attractive' people I'd cheerfully shoot in the face qnd some 'fuglies' who are the most lovely people ever.

Hmmm, good question. I think if most of us were truthful, we would know if our child was ugly. My daughter definitely isn't ugly, she's average looking but can look adorable. Of course I tell her she's beautiful though as she's only 4 and even if she did turn out ugly, I would not tell her so and would do everything to make sure she made the best of herself.
My mum thinks I'm mean cause if she says my daughter looked lovely that day, I always say "Do you really think so?" lol.

When I look at my daughters, I see them differently.
My two older daughters are my step-daughters, so I have no biological connection to them.
I can see that my older daugher has grown into a beautiful woman and I see thew glances she gets when we are out together.
I can see that my middle daughter is attractive, although a little on the large side, but she still has a very pretty face and beeautiful skin.
My youngest daughter - to whom I am bilologically connected - I can only see as the baby and little girl she was, so I am unable to judge her as a woman in terms of her attraction.
Of course, all my girls are beautiful to me - but I think that biological parents are devoid of objective analysis of their children, they are beautiful to their mums and dads no matter what they look like.
I find the notion of a parent telling her child that he / she is ugly to utterly appalling - I have always - and still do - affirm my children as good decent indivudals, as well as being great wives and mums.

Trust me Cowtipper, any parent will tell you that, barring any psychological barriers like PND they love their baby on sight and think they are the most beautiful creature on the planet.
I have lost count of the hours i have spent watching my youngest daughter sleep as a baby - it is that biological connection that makes them irresitable - wich is just as well, cosnidering what lies further uip the road!
