Joseph Kony and The Lord's Resistance Army

I've been hearing bits today about a video doing the rounds posted by Invisible Children Inc about atrocities in central Africa committed by Joseph Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army.

I'd never heard his name before today so I was shocked upon reading the wikipedia page that the group has been around since the 80's!

It reminded me of a question posed last week (I think) by AOG regarding atrocities commited in the name of Christianity and how we never hear of them, obviously (and it is clear through no fault of his own) he had not heard of Joseph Kony and the LRA either.

Why is it that we know all about Al Qaida and Bin Laden, but this man has commited all these acts under the radar of everyday western society? Why has he been ignored by the media!?

I think that descriptor is restricted to members of The Church of England who are of course too apathetic/undecided/confused to commit atrocities :-)

Funny, I was just reading up about him after I saw something on Twitter. Seems Invisible Children are really trying to raise awareness about him and the LRA now, but why it has taken so long, god knows.

I can't remember the particular post you are referring to, but I suspect you are taking my comments (if I ever made them) all out of context.

If I did mention "atrocities commited in the name of Christianity" I am sure I was referring to British Christians not what happens under the name of Christianity by an Ugandan guerilla group leader, in Africa.

May I make a suggestion, if you must quote from a thread Supposedly entered by myself, please be good enough to provide the evidence, it prevents any confusion.

Could you please post some proof of your accusation against Christianity, without of course going back into the annals of history? ///

My point is that the example of the LRA SHOULD have been laid down in front of you easily, given that it's such a horrendous situation, but we know very very little about it and it's only via online virals from an newly formed group that I, at least, have ever heard of him!

I apologised if I 'jumped the gun', but I am afraid you unfortunately took the brunt of my anger, caused by those who would wish to take what I have said completely out of context just to prove me wrong.

Without harking back to past posts and trips back even further into the annuls of history, I still maintain that Christianity has practised in today's England is a peaceful religion, much more than could be said for others.

We're bombarded with images and stories of Islamic fundamentalists and extremists and horrendous acts carried out in the name of Islam, but this story is brand new to us despite being carried out for decades?
We like to think if Britain as being a free thinking country, but it's clear we're being lead to believe what some people want us to believe as other facts are hidden or brushed aside as unimportant.

That is setting a rather narrow set of goal posts. You're comparing followers of the Christian faith in one country to the followers of other religions in all countries.

It's apples and oranges.

If Joseph Kony is committing atrocities under the guise of Christianity then it's fair that Christianity is included in those religions that can be criticised alongside Islam.

Well yes but don't you think the reason that some of us are swayed by the British media, is because we have experienced acts of Islamic fundamentalists and extremists carried out in the name of Islam in our own country?

Plus the fact that we are losing the lives of some of our young men and women, fighting Islamic terrorist in Afghanistan.

We would be lacking if we didn't.

I think that takes precedence over reading what some mad-man is up to in Africa?
