I want to take my Mum for a Spa weekend at a Hotel somewhere in the UK for her 60th birthday in November. Suggestions would be gratefully received? Many thanks.

My gf won a competition to go to Champneys in Tring she said it was fantabulous.  I doubt she would say the same if she had to pay for it though, very very pricey indeedy.

Have just looked on their website and they are doing a mother daughter special offer!  375 per room per night with a massage and facial and some pool thingy as well.

Scullywoo, my Mum took me for a 5 day break to Roundelwood Health Improvement Spa in Crieff (Perthshire, Scotland) as she felt we both needed a bit of pampering before my wedding (in 2002) and my subsequent move to Sweden. It was wonderful. They cater for individual needs (they worked out a daily programme for us). My Mum focused more on beauty things and I focused more on massage (Indian head massage was out of this world), physiotherapy, hydrotherapy pool etc as I am prone to back problems and muscle ache. It was heavenly. There was some offer on at the time and Mum paid just over 800 for us for the 5 days. I see it's a bit dearer now. They do day programmes there as well as 2 day-breaks. The scenery is breathtaking and a daily walk in the countryside is part of the programme too. The bedrooms were lovely and there was an abundant supply of fruit and mineral water all over the place. The meals at Roundelwood are all vegetarian and I found them all delicious and very filling.

Their website is here:

If you live in the South East I would def recommend Penny Hill Park in Bagshot, Surrey. It was sublime! It was a proper jobby spa with a Laconium, Tepidarium etc etc..they also have hydrotherapy pools and outdoor hot tubs - perfect in November! Bit pricey but then aren't most spas?? Not sure if they have their own website but if you search in google there's a link to Penny Hill via exclusivehotels.co.uk...

The one in Bath might be open for her 70th. Has it made it into the national news how delayed and troubled this has been? (sorry if it seems I have hijacked your question)

I think it was meant to be opened in 2001/2002, was officially opened by Pavarotti in 2003 but remained actually shut, and as far as I have heard still isn't finished to this day.

If, by some miracle, it is finished it might be okay, and you should have a really nice weekend there.
