I was done 10 years ago for doing 47mph in a 30mph zone. Won't deny I was doing this, but in my (slight) defence, I was within 50 yards of a "national speed limit" sign (i.e.60mph) and put my foot down as I approached it.
No doubt the local constabulary realised this and, with the assistance of a very large strategically placed tree trunk, found there were easy pickings to be had.
Tellingly, the PC who stopped me was extremely courteous and even apologetic !
I'm with you Kaktus. :-) I just don't think it should take the risk of a fine to make people slow down. We all know the law - we all passed our driving tests. We don't need sign on shop doors saying "By the way, please don't steal in here, theft is illegal".
If nothing else, what about the image of a child (or even any person) smashing into your windscreen and then dying on the road, or being left in a PVS. Doesn't THAT make you slow down?
It DOES generate revenue for the police, but why the heck shouldn't they? People claim about too much crime but they are not prepared to pay for it via direct taxation. Therefore, the police enforcing the law, and also raising money to fight crime.. well, it seems perfectly fair to me!
