in care in glasgow over 21 years ago. Cared for from 6 months to 17 years ( on and off) would like to access my records but do not know how ???

You should contact Social Services and go from there. They will know what happened to all their/your records.

Mormons and Salvation Army both have searches, one is family trees as long as you know at least one blood relative, the others do a personal trace regardless.
That's just an extra to the previous answer for general help, mainly for people with little information which may not be enough for social services.

All local authorities should have a policy on access to files (and many put it on their websites).  I obviously don't know where you live but I have attached a link below to Cornwall Social Services website re accessing files.  Do a google search for your local area.

It is usually necessary for you to put your request in writing to them - make sure it is sent to the right person by having a look at what your local social services policy is.
