Is it possible to mend a broken zip?
The question has been asked before, I know, but the way mine has broken seems a bit different to the other questions. My zip is on a bag and is the sort where the sides that close together look like small loops, rather than metal teeth. The slider goes along beautifully, the only problem is that the two sides behind it are not linked together. I would like to try a repair before taking the zip out and putting a new one in, which does not look easy. Any professional repair would probably cost more than the bag is worth.

In the making process they are usually inserted before other elements of the bag are closed up. I'd cut your losses and get a new bag - if this is still under any kind of guarantee, take it back and moan at them.
On a much smaller scale I had the same trouble with a camera case and I did replace the zips with metal ones using double thread and back-stitch - mine was black on black so you would need to match the thread very carefully because hand done back stitch is not as neat as machine stitching - good luck
