I heard 14 year old Malala Yousufzai who was shot by the Taliban described as another Rosa Parks. In a recording of an interview on the radio today, she said her ambition is to become a politician and work for social justice. Just as Rosa stood firm against racism, will Malila do the same and finally bring to an end Islam’s subjugation of women?
wow Waldo, that is one powerful statement beautifully summed up.
Now, if more girls were taught how to read they could use that as their banner and hopefully help educate the ill-informed.
Screw 'em - they failed at point blank range. They're not exactly rocket scientists and that girl will have protection from now on.
The Taliban have reportedly been caught by the strength of feeling against them in Pakistan (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/oct/15/

It is to be hoped that they seize the nettle and say that enough is enough.
that would be an extraordinary connection, however i truly fear for her.
If she returns home what are her chances of a normal life, or normal life span?
she's taken the first step already, em, and at great personal cost. It seems a little unreasonable, from the comfort of a British easy chair, to suggest that she do more.
i didn't suggest or post that she should return home. And i don't think she is a saviour of all womankind. However it's a small step, and perhaps others will follow her lead.
it's a bloody crying shame it has to take a 14 year old girl to show some mettle, that they don't have to put up with the status quo. If she returns home i hope that they give her as much help, protection as possible.
