Google the 'Boom Chicago Comedy Club'.  Can guarentee some great laughs and good food too.  They also do a boat trip of the canals but it's quite basic so maybe it wouldn't be for your party.

I can't recommend the old Heineken brewery highly enough. I think it's now called the Heineken experience and it is brilliant. There are a couple of simulator type things where you feel like you're on a bottle production line and another where you feel like you're on a horse & carriage ride through the city. It's suitable for everyone from 0 to 99 years.

The Anne Frank museum was high on my list - it's certainly thought provoking.

Van Gogh museum, if you like Van Gogh, is tremendous.  A very attractive city just to walk around, but watch where you put your feet, it's known for its dogs.

Obvious and probably on your agenda but I'll answer it anyway - the canal tour. I didn't do it until the third time I went, but its very interesting, and you get to see a lot of the city from the water.

Thw Melkweg is good for bands and live ents, but if you are taking your mum it might not be her cup of tea, although you never know!!

Whatever - have fun, its a great place.

Definitely the Van Gogh museum, I think even Vincent would be proud of it.
And don't forget the Rijkesmuseum. It had been closed for a while due to works but doors are open again.

Have a lovely time there with your Mam, feelap.

I'd definitely reccommend the Rijkesmuseum and Van Gogh museum.  There used to be interesting toilets in the cafe outside the Rikjesmuseum, so if you pop in there for a bite, they're worth checking out, just for amusements sake.   Also, Steve says, do the canal tour - it's a great way to see the city, and actually helped us find our way around.  Beautiful city, great people, you and mum will have a blast.  Watch out for the trams tho!
Take a canal ride as soon as possible, it will help you get your bearings and you get vouchers that you may be able to use during your stay. It's a bit like a water bus, you can get on and off as you like. There's a stop right by the rijkesmuseum which would be top of my list and if you exit through the rear door your not very far from the Van Gogh museum. There's a website called "Amsterdam the Channels" which may help you.

If you've got time, get a train to Delft.  It's only a short journey and the trains are frequent and reliable.  To quote from the following website:  http://www.delft.nl/webEN/content.jsp?objectid=33500

A city of great charm with the best Holland has to offer: treelined canals, beautifully kept historic buildings, charming hotels, topclass restaurants, funshopping and great bars. Delft is a 'must-see' on your vist to the Netherlands.

It's a beautiful place with loads of character.  The weekly markets are amazing, especially the flower market.

Enjoy your trip.

Also if you have time, go by train or tram (I think) to the Madurodam ) on the way to Den Haag. Its a minature village, sort of like Legoland but not built of lego if you know what I mean.

When I went a few years ago it also had an Ice Sculpture Exhibition - so they may still have something similar on exhibition now.

Also if you like flowers then the floating Flower market is worth a trip - thats in Amsterdam itself.

Hope you and your mum have a great time.

Well, there you have plenty to do but you never told us how long you were actually going for, feelap. Maybe you'll have to make a return trip to see everything.

It's not far off now. Are you packed yet?!!
