For me, when I was about 25 got very drunk and shared a bedroom with my mother. I kept on kissing and kissing her whereby she blamed on pernod. In factual in those days my drinks had been spiked. I got up next morning naked as the baby was born full of embarrassment had to face my mother and say "Sorry" for last night mum - oh she said you would have done it for me. I have never forgot those words and I am 60. what were the nicest words said to you.
Years ago after a woman's daughter was killed by a drunk driver, she had a memorial garden donated to her by the council, after a few weeks the garden was vandalised by local yobs and she asked if I could put a gate and some railings around the statue she had made.
Seeing the hurt in her eyes as she explained how much this garden and statue meant to her and the anguish at the vandalism I made the gate and railing around the statue and didn't charge her.
She invited me round her house after and gifted me a bottle of vintage Champange and 2 Waterford crystal glasses and a card thanking me for helping her with a handmade drawing of her daughter as an angel.
That was about 15 years ago and I still well up when I see that card
My father died in the january, and apart from her grandchildren,to give her something to look forward to,i worked overtime to book us a holiday to jersey. When i told her,she was in tears and said my father would have been soo proud of me. She loved the holiday and jersey so much, and we went back together 3 times more. To hear her say that about my father being proud of me,has never left me.
