Well, there's nothing like having a cheap shot at someone in sharing a story is there?
i couldn't condone it, even though my head says wish we could get rid of them
Hasn't support for the death penalty been about the same as that for years?

Has there been a significant change? - No

Has it gone from more against to more in favour? - No

Is this poll and presenting it at this time meaningful? - No.
Shouldn't that read "63% of respondents to a Mail on Sunday on-line survey"?
What do you suggest we do with these preachers of hate then Gromit?
Bad news chill. It has gone DOWN not up.

In 2011, 65% want the death penalty returned.

Cheap shot? Really? Publishing facts? I'm sure it'll be taken in the right spirit!
Question Author
Slight twist there Gromit, good attempt though.
Your link is for murderers. The one I posted appears to be specifically for terrorist offences, as pointed out in the OP.

We could start by prosecuting them with our existing laws.
For some reason Abu Qatada has never faced trial.
Of course it works both ways, people preaching that all muslims are evil could also find themselves locked up.

Who's said that?
that's the Birmingham Six stuffed then
I don't want any terrorist to get the death penalty. It is exactly what many of them hope for, so they can be regarded as martyrs for their cause.

I am positive the Woolwich murderers hoped to be gunned down by the police.
So you would not want the killers of Drummer Lee Rigby charged with murder then Chill.

I do.
Question Author
Better a martyr than a cause celebre and drain on the taxpayer.

If they want martyrdom, let them have it.
Question Author
Nice try Gromit.
don't make them martyrs, because that means more of the same, more killings, and more fools who strike in retaliation. Let justice take it's course.
Justice what Justice.Anthony Blair is still free isn't he.
I don't actually have any major moral objection the death penalty - my opposition to it is purely practical (false convictions are unacceptably high in our present justice system to warrant killing people - for me, the risk is too great that someone innocent will be killed).

In the case of terrorist activity though, I'm uncertain whether that limitation applies, although the definition of 'terrorist' is a rather slippery one. A group of my friends were warned of partaking in suspected 'terrorist' activity by local police when they were participating in a silent disco. Likewise, I know an art history student who had her camera seized in London by an over zealous police officer who cited the terrorism act as his justification.

The authorities are able to brand pretty much anyone they want as a terrorist.
What about deportation to their parents origional birthplace? or is against their H.R.?
Question Author
Kromo, excuse my ignorance but what's a silent disco?
Isn't it just a mime?
