Yes, it is, and possibly your shoes too. Flew out of Gatwick last week, all coats off, belts, empty pockets into the plastic tray.

Thanks BoxTops
yes, and your belt and sometimes your shoes!!
First time we took all the kids away they made me take the walking reins off thing 1 and thing 2. Always have to take off coats, belts, etc. My middle child (girl) always gets frisked going and coming back.
Yes, most likely you'll be asked to take it off and put it in a basket to be scanned along with the contents of your pockets and your hand luggage. Not sure if you still have to take shoes off, but be prepared for that too. Safe journey.
if you have a laptop in your hand luggage, you have to take that out and put it through the scanner separately.

Don't forget your 5 items of liquid etc still have to be in a sealed plastic bags and each not more than 100ml.
So pleased I don't need to fly anywhere.
Hear hear Daisy.
It really isn't a problem - I'd rather be secure, and you soon get used to it.
Jeeeez , stay home.
The answer you're looking for is 'yes, you will need to iron your shirt'. :)
The glamorous jetset days are long gone.
And how many of us belonged to the jet set Hopkirk?
I think there was just Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.
Have to admit, taking the ferry to France a couple of years back was so much more relaxing, turning up a bit late(roadworks) and driving on 15 minutes before sailing.
None of that turning up 2 hours beforehand, did you pack the case yourself(always wanted to say "No actually, my butler did!"), luggage check-in, X-ray machines and scanners, carousels, miniscule toilets, aching ears...

Actually, why am I doing all that this year? LOL
Dead right, Chill. For some reason, taking a train under the Channel is a five minute no stripping off experience too, on check-in
depends on the airport. I kept my shoes on at Gatwick last week but Heathrow often want them off. Coats and jackets almost always have to come off, though, and belts more often than not. Laptops have to come out of bags.
Yes we did the last time we flew from East Midlands (last June) and also our shoes. Believe it or not I was made to sit on a chair and have the soles of my feet scanned with a hand scanner. I joked with the very nice lady that all she would find was plenty of hard skin! Goodness only knows what they were looking for that day ....... my husband and friends were not subjected to this treatment, they stood there laughing their heads off and I have never lived it down. So be warned!!!!
Always coming out of Zimbabwe it off with shoes and belts and things. Not so much coming out of other countries but often stopped for spot scan in Australia. Have yet to go through one of those scanners that show you naked. I think mostly in USA.
What I don't understand are the rules on liquids. You can only take liquids in 100ml containers. When I went on holiday last I just transferred the suncreen from it's 200 ml bottle into two 100 ml, and it was perfectly ok to take through. What difference did it make, I still have 200ml of the same substance.
