ruby wedding present

it is my parents 40th (ruby) wedding anniversary soon. does anyone have a novel idea what i could get them, i am thinking of spending up to �500 but if it is unique it could even be something free. i don't live near them so it would have to be delivered.

Hi hobsonbear,Most people have most of the things they want when they get to 40 years,Ihad this problem a while ago for a 50 anniversary,if your parents have a favorite pet and you have photos you can get a portrait painted from the photo .Good luck.

What about arranging a short holiday for them or a long-weekend break to a favourite (or new) destination?

Or a weekend stay at a luxury hotel?

If they have a garden, an added extra could be a rose bush by the name of Ruby Wedding - quite possibly available on-line from a rose grower which you Google to find.

What about having a star named after them? Some people like that sort of thing,and it's certainly different! As far as I know,you're given a certificate and a map which shows where the star is in the constellation etc.

How about a day trip on the Orient Express (we had a day in Bath, it was great) also there is another company called Steam Dreams who do the same type of thing.

For their's, I bought my parents tickets on the Orient Express. It can go from London to York or Bristol or.... Or one could go for the Turkish version.

i found a photo of them cutting their wedding cake (oh, the fashions!) and had it printed onto canvas on a box frame.  i just hope they're not too embarrassed.

also, for any occasion this is a great idea if you have a shop in your town that does this service.  for husbands 40th i had a picture of him in monument valley put onto canvas.  he was thrilled!
