Anyone Emigrated To Canada ?

I'm doing a pros and cons list for emigrating to Canada (Ontario region)
If anyone has successfully emigrated or emigrated and returned I'd be interested to hear their story.
I'm looking for advice on working/schools/house buying+ownership and anything else you can think of.

My cousin went with her then boyfriend many years ago, and loved everything about life there. Having visited, I can see why.
Everything's a pro (even the winter weather!) except the distance from loved ones in the UK.

the French live mostly in Quebec rather than Ontario.

For me the cold winters would be quite a factor (against)

I was taken to Canada (when I was 11 years old in 1955) by my mother who had emigrated 5 years earlier and I came back to Scotland when I was 43 so I spent a good deal of my adult life in Canada. I lived in Toronto and within 80 miles of the city also. The education system is good and there is work if you want it. I was never without employment. My ex husband and I bought and paid for our house in 5 years. It was a good life but when my marriage broke up I decided to come home for a while and ended up staying. I have been back and forth twice a year on average since 1987. You should give it a go. You can always come back if you don't settle.

It did cross my mind a few times after I went out and some family have done it and there are ties with other family. I don't think I'd be able to due to health insurance and such as I have too many medical problems.

The winters can be harsh though they are more equipped for it out there and there is a whole underground system in Toronto!

I'd say you would need to drive and have access to a vehicle as round where I was things seems to revolve around people being able to drive. Lots of drive through Tim Horton's coffee though :)

a girl from my village is in living in vancouver (I know, 3k miles away from ontario lol) and posted today on FB that she was having her first coffee of the day sitting on the veranda listening to the Moose calling for their females, who'd want to wake up to that?

well me probably lol but the winters there are really harsh. her hubby was head hunted for a job there and then they transferred to oz last year but went back to vancouver after 6 months as they thought oz was vile,

Been over a couple of times, comes across as a laid back life, speed limits are kept to, total strangers are friendly and the petrol is 79p per litre !
What's not to like?
I almost lived on Tim Hortons coffee and doughnuts the whole visit !
If I find a job over there, it's pretty much a definite, just got to convince my 9 year old son...

Dot, Vancouver's a bit milder than most of the rest of Canada, though it rains. Good place to mate, if you're a moose.

I have a daughter and 5 grown up grandchildren living in Barrie Ontario. Canada is very child friendly and the children have a wonderful life. As I said I was 11 when I went to Canada and I soon adapted. I think your son would love it.

I went across Canada from Toronto to Vancouver in February this year - never seen to much snow in my life. A lot of the locals who use the train at that time of year are people who go across to Vancouver to get away from the harsh winter on the East coast. From what I`ve seen of Canada, it's mountains, plains, lakes and forest and that`s about it - I`d be bored. The people are great though. A colleague of mine decided to emigrate to Vancouver a few years ago - the whole process took a couple of years but he loves it (Vancouver)
