/// The glamorous 40-year-old former GMTV political editor was 15 when she posed for the pictures to earn money to buy herself some new clothes. ///

There are plenty of girls who are short of money but who would never dream of posing topless for money at any age never mind at just 15 years of age, but even if they did it would be condemned as "out of date now" by Ms de Piero.

/// Ms de Piero said that when the truth about her photos emerged, Harriet Harman – who was the women and equalities minister at the time – provided her with ‘amazing’ support. ///

/// She told her: ‘Don’t worry, it’s absolutely fine Gloria, we wouldn’t judge you for that,’ and urged her not to ‘change’ or get ‘buttoned up’. ///

How very understanding of you Harriet, can you imagine what she would have said if this had been a female Tory minister?

What would she have said ?

non story , really

Not sure what you think Harriet might have said had this been a female tory minister.

Do you think de Pieros past disqualifies her from understanding the concerns of women then?

Interesting choice of phrases from Harriet in the quote though - to tell a one-time topless model not to "button up". Sounds almost Freudian :)
I'd hope she'd say the same of a female Tory minister. And I expect she would. Why would you doubt it, AOG, as you appear to do? Nothing wrong with being a topless model. Do you think there is?
Probably said accidentally on purpose LG
Well there are certain people who now run the country that spent their youth trashing Oxford restaurants.

Bit of a weak effort at trashing the enemy by the Mail

Er sorry I meant bringing up an important issue in an unbiased manner of course
Goodness, AOG, you're not suggesting that there might be double standards afoot?
Crikey, just looked at the photo in the link.

Hasn't she got big hands!
Never got to her hands
She's like Gollum.
Yes, I would say she is.

Jake, apart from t*ts are involved in both stories I am struggling to see the relevance?
If she were a Tory minister, Harriet Harman may well have been less supportive, becasue she is a Labour minister.

That's how politics work.

You support your fellow MPs whilst attacking the opposition.

However, this is all supposition. We don't know how Harriet would have reacted.

With regard to whether Ms Piero is the right person to be Labour's spokesperson for women - I don't think so. Posing topless twenty five years ago is a sure sign that she is unfit for any position of influence or trust.

Indeed, she should not be allowed to walk the streets in daylight for dear of corrup...

Etc etc etc.
LOL sp

You're right JJ,
but I did have to take another look!
I could offer her some support too - and I've got big hands also
sp1814 - ?

Where is that sarcasm button

Well I don't know about you, but I think at only 15 then yes there is.

Also isn't it illegal?

But getting back to adult topless models, I only entered this story because of the hypocrisy of it all.

Has it not been suggested that 'top shelf lads mags' should be removed, and 'page three' of the Sun should be discontinued, all by women's groups who state that such things reduce women to "SEX OBJECTS".
Ee oop, I've just noticed she were born in t' Bradford.

And "once came ahead of Kate Moss in FHM's list of the Sexiest Women In The World"

Well, I think she sounds fascinating, and an ideal person to be a spokes ...

Oh, god, I can't do that "spokesperson" word.

If I am a human, and a woman, why can't I also be a chairman and a spokesman?

Before we know it, we'll have to call ourselves huperson, and woperson.

I can feel a thread coming on!
Bully for her.

Maybe it should be a condition of the job :-)
She is my local M P she would have been better taking a career in topless modelling, chocolate teapot springs to mind.

Maybe supposition, but based on her past opinions.

/// Harriet Harman, who is known for her staunch feminist views, has been nominated for the annual Rear of the Year award. ///

/// The Minister for Women, who wants pictures of Page 3 girls banned from the workplace to protect the sensitivity of some staff, is an unlikely candidate for the honour. ///
