Firefighters On Strike

Whinging that their pension age is going up to 60, saying that 60 is too old for them to be doing such a physical job

Yes, they do a very dangerous job but half the time they are hanging around at the station honing their table tennis/darts/pool skills

If they aren't fit enough to carry on as a firefighter into their late 50's then they need to leave the post and find a less physical job until they reach retirement age

glad to hear he is improving jeza. the rest may come eventually. after all we never know what is going to happen in life. please give him my very best wishes next time you see him. he'll not remember chatting to me late at night but i remember how interesting he always was.

In an ideal world they would get everything they asked for: but, in such an ideal world I worry what they would come up with to strike over? Perhaps the tenders are too red for them, or not red enough I do not believe in strikes and holding the country to ransom, especially if it puts lives at risk!

I totally disagree with you joeluke, our fireman are wonderful and deserve to be treated so, I hope you are never in need of them to come and rescue you & yours, then you might change your mind.

If you sign up now knowing you retire at 60, your choice, but to tell firefighters that signed up in the belief they'd retire at 50 that they have another 10 years to serve is another matter.

When they are on strike no lives are at risk. There always going to go on a shout. I hope you are never in need of them to come and rescue you & yours, then you might change your mind. i dont mind if they sit playing what ever, so long as there not out fighting fires where people could be at risk

Just a thought; what about the poor old navvies? Still bottoming out trenches in all weathers, laying drains/sewers etc.. The building trade may have got slightly better but they're still out in all weathers! And no guaranteed pension except that provided by their N.I. contributions (and even that's a Ponzi scheme with no real guarantees)
