My mum and I were talking about Jesus Christ Superstar and she said she's pretty sure she's heard David Essex singing the song "Everything's Alright." I tried looking for it on youtube but nothing came up. Does anyone know if he ever did sing it?

That was Mary Magdalene's song wasn't it?
Yes, tilly, as sung beautifully by Yvonne Elliman in the film version. Can't really work out why Essex would sing it?
She also sings 'I don't know how to love him' and i have never heard a singer put so much emotion into a song as she does with that one.
Not sure if the previous one is Elliman -
Thanks to Tilly & Ken for a memory jog ... and a school musical performance ... then I bought the album ;0)
BlackRoseThorn; He did a song called 'It's gonna be alright'. Could mum be confusing it with that one?
Isn't there a male part in the song that he could have sung?
"Surely you're not saying we have the resources...." that bit?
Entirely possible, Francis. Hadn't thought of him playing Judas.

it's definitely not "It's gonna be Alright." She says that when she heard the "everything's alright, everything's fine" bit during the new version she thought that she had heard David Essex singing it. But she's looked at all her David Essex CDs and it's not on any of them.
Just had a zap around google and discovered that David Essex was in Godspell, but can find no mention of him performing any sings from JC Superstar.

well mum just tweeted David Essex and he replied that he had never sung it. She must have been thinking about someone else. Don't know who.
Oh I forgotten how much I love this film

mum watched Ted Neeley (is that how it's spelt?) singing it and she realised that was the version she heard. Mystery solved, thanks for the help everyone.
Black Rose - where did your mum see Ted Neeley sing it?
I don't think he sings it in the film
