Liverpool Beer Festival-Beers Of The Week

Thursday 20th - Saturday 22nd February.
With 220 Beers to choose from, my OH and myself have picked out just 4 otherwise the list would be endless !!

Shipwreck IPA @ 6.5% from Liverpool Organic Brewery.
A true India Pale Ale. Intense citrus and powerful hop flavours.

Govinda IPA @ 6.8% from Cheshire Brewhouse, Congleton.
Traditional British brewing, brewed to a recipe dating from the 1800’s. Made with only the finest pale malt and masses of east kent golding hops.
Slightly cloudy due to amount of Hops !

Imperial Russian Stout @ 7.9 % from Liverpool Organic Brewery.
Liquorice, dark chocolate and coffee with a little fruity malt on the aftertaste. Powerful decadence.

Old Shrimper @ 5.5 % from Southport Brewery.
Rich, dark and fruity. A real winter warmer.

Some of the Liverpool Pubs were also having their own Beer Festival.
Ship & Mitre, Dale Street......Over 100 Beers, many on Gravity Feed.

The Dispensary, Renshaw Street.....Over 50 Beers.
One outstanding Beer of theirs was:
New Zealand Pale Ale @ 6.0% from Hawkshead Brewery, Cumbria.
Strong, modern pale ale, packed with wild fruit flavours and hoppy aromas. Made using four New Zealand hops.

And a good time had by all...
I think the next stop will be the drying out Clinic !! :-))

It was £7.00 for a 4 Hr Session, which included £3.00 of Free Beer Tokens and a 1/2 Pint Glass.
Did you manage to get hold of 'Baltic Trader' from Green Jack Breweries ??

Hi Booldawg !
Although CAMRA run the Festival at the Cathedral Crypt, Liverpool Organic are the Main Sponsors of the event.
They brought 20 different Ales and were available on draught.
Liverpool Organic are holding their 2nd Major Beer Festival @ St.Georges Hall on 25 September 2014 - 28 September 2014 !
Should be good !

Funnily enough someone one FB posted he'd had a glass of Tactical Nuclear Penguin.

Not sure what they're doing to it to get the 32% ABV. Yeast will only brew up to 23% after that it has to be distilled. Maybe they're adding neat alcohol!

Tactical Nuclear Penguin is more of a Beer Liqueur really (If that makes sense )
Saw it at the Birmingham Beer Festial but not at the Liverpool one.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin Bottling Note
First released as the world's strongest beer, this is a completely insane product from the equally bonkers chaps at BrewDog. This fantastical quaff is produced using intense cold, utilising a process called "chill and skim" (which hints at how it works!). The result of this is an Imperial Stout that weighs in at a whopping 32% abv. Of course, they didn't stop there. After it was brewed, they popped it into an Arran whisky cask for 8 months, before a further 8 months in a cask from a famous Islay distillery. The result... Tactical Nuclear Penguin - BrewDog's first double-casked beer!

Sink the Bismarck is 41% haven't tried it yet but give me time

I had a couple of crackers in the Dispensary Ratsputin 7.4% Rat Brewery and a 7.2% IPA which for some reason I cant remember its name but it was a bit good

There are so many Beer Festivals to choose from these days, one has to be selective owing to costs etc.
Derby Beer Festival 9th-13th July
and
Peterborough Beer Festival 19th-23rd August, should be very good and well worth a visit ! :-))
