Ab'ers Top Tips To Get The Most Out Of The World Cup Brazil 2014
32 Answers
The 2022 World Cup is scheduled to take place in an air conditioned greenhouse that thousands of migrant slaves have died to build, so it's likely you won't enjoy it very much :( Oh well, please put that out of your mind for now... it is VITAL that you fully immerse yourself in the upcoming proceedings in Brazil. Follow my top tips to get the most out of the greatest tournament on Earth!
*** TIP 1: Set up a Work Sweepstake ***
Dupe co-workers into paying money to select teams via a “random draw” ;) Print out the tokens yourself and mark Brazil with a small pencil mark so that you can select it yourself. If you get 32 entries (one person for each team) you’re basically getting 32/1 odds on what should be 3/1 – that’s great business, well done.
*** TIP 2: Get Behind England ***
If we beat these countries in the great wars, we can sure as hell get a ball in their net. You’re not a true England fan unless you purchase a St George’s flag or bunting (don’t affix this to your home with too much enthusiasm, you will need to remove it after the group stages).
*** TIP 3: Buy snacks ***
I’ve yet to watch anything on television that couldn’t be improved by a range snacks and drinks. Following on from "get behind England" suggestion above, why not create an “England salad” with some cherry/plum tomatoes acting as the red part of our beloved flag? Or how about dropping some cherry tomatoes in some milk for an England themed drink?
Please contribute your own tips so we can all enjoy this together!!!

i don't watch the world cup, and i don't have any interest in football at all, but i love the fact that for a period of time, the whole world gets excited for the same thing (apart from the non lovers, which is actually not that many people)

Instead of a sweepsatek in work, we've set up a league on the Sun's DreamTeam website and all chucked in a tenner.
It helps maintain interest throughout, there are transfer windows too.
Even the girlies have been having a go!

What just the one prize?
You will never sell a ticket.

As an about to be "Football Widow" how about something for those who will have lost partners for two weeks?
Say an anti world cup sweepstake where the winner is the one who picks the team with the lowest score or the least number of goals or the most own goals, or the most sending offs....
I could go on and on and on ...
Pimms anyone?

Tip 4:
Forget tips one to three. Instead book a four week holiday beginning in the next few days. Ensure your accommodation has either no TV (preferable) or one which is under your sole control. Either eat in or choose eateries with no TV (there are some - where I'm going next week has plenty). Return home at the end of this ridiculous nonsense completely refreshed, none the poorer for having been excused one of the most over-hyped feasts of "entertainment", second only to the Olympic Games. Job Done !!!
