My daughters want to live and work in London together next year.  Where are the most reasonably priced properties that are not too far from the City.  ?

Well, London have 5 major parts that is West London, Central London, East London, North London & South London.

West, North & Central are expensive, while East & South London have a bit cheaper houses, I'm not sure whether you're looking for rent or you're interested in buying. But East London is the place where most of the students, immigrants, etc. live.

You can get reasonably priced apartments in the redeveloped Docklands, but these are aimed at people who stay in London during the week for work and go elsewhere at weekends, Docklands are great for transport but is dead at weekends.
the last reasonably priced property in London was seen in 1974. Depends on just how much they want to pay, but in general the further out - and the further from public transport - the cheaper. This can mean quite a long way out, depending.

the cheapest flat i ever rented in london was in New Cross Gate (just at the end of the old kent road and not to be confused with new cross) - its was fine for transport with underground and overground nearby and you could be in the city in about 35 - 40 mins on public transport. Quite a lot of nice victorian house around the place with high ceilings and gardens (usually shared)

Why not think 'outside the box' ? (Love that expression!).  There are narrow-boats or houseboats that can be rented within minutes of the centre of London.  I recently saw one advertised (on the web) for 560 per month!  All mod cons and can sleep 4 - 5 quite comfortably.
Try Walford maybe, there never seems to be any trouble finding somewhere in Albert Square...... No seriously, my eldest who isn't working at present found cheap, clean accomodation on the Isle of Dogs in the east end. Twenty floors up but lovely views.
One mans reasonable is another mans expensive.
