Am I missing something but why are some of the players at the World Cup wearing one pink and one blue boot? Is it the position they are playing in? Some kind of statement?

I was watching a junior football tournament today at our local park and one lad there had pink/blue boots but I didn't like to ask in case of looking stupid.

The cynic in me says it helps players recognise their left from their right feet :)

Apologies if this has been asked before. I did a quick search but couldn't see anything.

I assumed it was a sponsorship arrangement aimed at encouraging youngsters to buy similar pairs.
I've also noticed Neymar keeps showing off the top of his undies- I assume there's some sponsorship there too.

Something I've puzzled over though is that in the second half some players are rolling up one leg of their shorts almost up to their groin. Is it some way of cooling down or are the shorts getting sweaty and rubbing their thighs?

Ah so, it's just a fashion statement. Thanks for your answer.

Something more for parents to be pressured into buying their football mad kids.

More pointless guff from sportswear manufacturers.

If players were told to wear such nonsense it would doubtless be beneath their 'dignity'.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto once wore odd boots in a game for Spurs...

He bought two pairs and one split, but he wouldn't throw away a perfectly good boot, so he played on in odd boots!!!
Back in the 80's it was fashion for the youth to wear one pink sock and one green sock both being fluorescent so not much has changed.
It's to denote their support for LGBT equality
I asked one of the players why he wore a pink boot on his right foot and a blue one on his left. He said he didn't really know, but he had a pink left boot and a blue right boot back at home.
