Arndale Centres

I've been to various towns and cities in the UK over the last month, and something has struck me as odd - so many have an Arndale Centre!  Why?  Who or what is Arndale?  Do you have one?

I've been trying to tell my GF and mates for YEARS that their are arndales all over the UK not just Leeds, Bradford and Manchester and now i have proof!!!!!!!
I'm gonna love telling them!!!!!

We have one here in Cross Gates in Leeds.  It is very good.  It is an L shaped mall with the usual shops. (Woolies, Tesco, Boots, Superdrug and various other shops and banks.  The best thing for me is that it is local.

Yep, Wandsworth Arndale Centre is horrid on the outside but that's because it's been undergoing a huge transformation. The Inside is nearly done, so I guess they'll do the outside soon.

There used to be one in Poole, Dorset, but it was re-named The Dolphin Centre a few years ago.  It was pretty grim from what I remember of it, but it did have a big concrete pond with goldfish in, which was fascinating to me when I was little!

The name Arndale came from the names of the founders of the company - Arnold Hagenbach and Sam Chippindale.  Following a trip to the USA, where they were impressed with the shopping malls, they started a programme of town centre redevelopments in this country.
