Ebay, Refuding Payments
12 Answers
Hi all.
I purchased an item from Ebay a couple of days ago and have just received an message (through Ebay.co.uk) from the seller. Apparently the item is now faulty and have issued a full refund and have apologised.
I paid through the Paypal portal but via my bank card - as apposed to logging in and paying that way. The reason for this is that for some reason if I use my Paypal account which has the debit card linked to it - it can take 3 days for them to process the payment.
Am I still covered by Paypal. I've received an email from [email protected] confirming the full refund and on my Ebay 'purchases' page it now says that the item isn't paid for; which would make sense is the seller has issued a refund.
Does anyone know how long it takes to send a refund to a card as apposed to an actual Paypal account? I'm with Natwest if that helps.
Cheers.

Dizmo -this happened to my OH when he purchased an item on Ebay using his credit card through Ebay then got a refund -it took 10 working days to show up on his statement and we were a bit worried as it was for £350. It was refunded eventually and don't worry -if paypal say you've got a refund well then you've got one .

from the paypal site
How refunds are credited
If you paid with your debit card or credit card, your payment is refunded to that card. Refunds may take up to 30 days to appear on your statement.
If you paid with your bank account or PayPal balance, your payment is refunded to your PayPal balance.
Refunds are in the same currency and at the same conversion rate as the original payment.

I had a similar problem and paid in the same way as you did rather than signing into my Paypal account. The refund was back on my card within 10 working days. I had emails confirming refund at different stages of the process. It wasn't a problem. I believe the PayPal protection would have been available should I have needed it.
Thanks Chelle and furrypusscat. I just needed reassurance that's all. I'm gutted that I have to wait so long - I needed the item and now I can't afford to purchase another until the funds are back in my account.
At least the seller was honest enough before sending the item out - I'd of had a nightmare trying to prove it was broken when received.

The one thing I don't understand is... the item shows in purchase history as unpaid but free P&P. When I paid for the item the P&P was £8.99. I do hope he isn't going to try and pull a fast one with the postage and packaging refund.
The only proof I'll have of what I paid is by getting a bank statement. I usually printscreen the Paypal confirmation of payment after completing the transaction. I didn't on this occasion.

P_R: Apparently it isn't going to show in my Paypal account as I never used Paypal to login and pay with. I just used the payment portal for non existing members. The email has come to be because the person has refunded the money back, I'm assuming directly back to the card.
I use both internet banking, telephone banking and the Natwest app on my phone. I'll have to keep checking.
Thank you for your response though.
