Giants' Causeway

My mum went there when young, and I'm wondering...

...is it worth a visit?

Absolutely!  It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and very interesting for a day out.  It is frequently referred to as the eighth wonder of the world.

It's also located on the beautiful Co. Antrim coast, and there are plenty of other attractions nearby too.

We have friends coming from Scotland soon who are visiting specifically for that purpose, and to see the world famous Bushmills Whiskey Distillery, which is only a couple of miles away.

Been a couple of times & thought it was a pretty interesting place.  I preferred it when I went on a rainy October Tuesday as the place was almost deserted.  My wife & I also went to for our anniversary in June & the only downside was that we had to share it with many hundred other tourists too.

If you do make the trip I can definitely recommend staying at least one night at the Giants Causeway Hotel http://www.giants-causeway-hotel.com/ It's a lovely hotel in a great location with very friendly staff.  We had a huge room overlooking the sea & a fantastic meal (complete with champers) for not much over �100!!!

If it's running, the Bushmills Railway http://www.giantscausewayrailway.org/ is worth a ride.  If you do go on this, make the outbound trip quite early to leave you plenty of time to sample the various whiskeys at the Bushmills distillery... http://www.bushmills.com/

If you have a little more time, the whole of the north coast in that area is, in my humble opinion, worth spending a day or two exploring.  Enjoy!

It's worth seeing... but it's not worth going to see. (As Samuel Johnson put it.) Actually, judging by "Coast" the other week, it may be getting a bit too touristy. I saw it a couple of times back when "the troubles" were on and nobody wanted to visit Northern Ireland, and it is quite spectacular, but then we did practically have the place to ourselves...
