I would even advise against working there, but that's probably not a choice you have.
I'd go a litlle farther out to live if I were you. Blackheath is the only area mentioned by metagirl which I consider reasonable, but it's mostly very expensive.
I would move somewhere in the quadrant between Croydon and Sevenoaks. If you choose somewhere near a railway station there are decent connections to New Cross and you can enjoy a bit of the country at weekends.
My husband used to live off Turnham Road, Brockley, nr New Cross (left there in '65). It was ok in the 60's, but apparently isn't a very desirable place to live these days.
Like the others, he's just informed me that although Blackheath is further to travel, it might be a better option for you. Good luck Juan.
