this only appears in the right wing press, but the photos seem real enough so we can probably deduce this is really happening

righteous indignation in the DM and in the standard - but are this group really doing anything wrong?

Why weren't they given money and a house like all the foreigners that come to these shores? ;)

You need to ask?

Contrary to the statement in the article, I don't think that it *is* obvious that the funny metal poles and flat-slab in the middle of the park are a memorial.

I would prefer that these people weren't there (back in their home country would be preferable), but I don't think they are being deliberately offensive in using the site.

maybe so JTH - but what else could the huge slate plaque (in these photos) with 52 names on be, if not some sort of memorial?

I would hazard as guess that English isn't the first language of any of these immigrants......and they are probably not aware of the nature of the memorial (even if they do recognise it to be one) and how close we are to the anniversary of the tragedy.

Maybe pillars was lost in translation for pillows....

Thoughtless.
It's like those tourists that got their *** out on that sacred mountain. Insensitivity arising from ignorance rather than anything else.

as Methyl says..

// If they are genuine EU visitors with verifiable EU passports tell them to move on and why. If they are illegal immigrants take firm action. //
old bob yes - I think they are Romanians - having had my pocket picked there I have a jaundiced view of the country and people

and yeah when it comes to it
I think they SHOULD be give a free house and benefits ....

It is quite obviously apparent, regardless of which language is spoken, that the plaque and the pillars are some kind of a memorial.

You'd have to be a dribbling idiot not to know.

I've seen the monument in the image below - I didn't go looking for it, I stumbled upon it - and it was immediately very very clear what it was.

Downright disrespectful in my opinion.

We recently had a new war memorial unveiled in Whitby. As you can see from the photo, it is rather lovely.
It has now had ugly railings erected around it as it became a popular as a nappy changing spot

// they should be deported //

they can't be. they're genuine passport holding EU citizens. they have every right to be here, even if that means they live in the subways at Marble Arch (which they do in the winter).

/// As soon as we knew about the problems, the council notified Royal Parks Police and Immigration Enforcement officers, bringing together the right agencies to address the issue as soon as possible.///

Nowhere does it say
\\\they're genuine passport holding EU citizens. they have every right to be here,\\\

in the report, no. but they are identified as Romanian, and if you've been to that part of London recently you'll know there's something of a colony of them at the western edge of the main Oxford Street shopping area. All the authorities can do is move them on when they get complaints about piler of poo in the flowers on Park Lane, etc. they can't deport them, they're EU citizens arriving legitimately on the regular scheduled bus.
