I passed my driving test in january and have had my 'P' plates on ever since, i have no intention of taking them off (well, not for a while). Is there any legal length time that P plates should be left on for? what's the longest i can have them on for??
Sorry, also meant to say: - I didn't think it was a legal requirement to have them in the first instance; once you become confident, you should be OK to do away with them.
Green P Plates may be displayed on a vehicle by a person who has recently passed their driving test. They are not obligatory. You can leave them on for as long as you like - the "live and learn" guidelines are 2 years.
If you've passed your test you've earned the right not to feel you have to hide behind your P plates. I don't think motorists are any more gentle with you because you display them anyway - they just expect you to hold them up. You've got your licence, you've had a few months and you may well be better at driving than people who passed their test decades ago.
