Geert Wilders seems to think so.
/// In an article for Breibart last month, Wilders urged Muslims to turn their back on Islam, telling them to 'opt for freedom.
He wrote: 'Islam is a totalitarian ideology. Muslims are its victims.
'Just imagine you’re a gay person in a Muslim family.
'Just imagine you’re a Muslim girl wanting to marry a non-Muslim.
'Just imagine being a Muslim wanting to convert to Christianity or any other religion or become an atheist.
'It is in the interest of our own Western civilisation, but also in the interest of the Muslims themselves, that we encourage as many Muslims as possible to turn their backs on Islam and become Christians or atheists or whatever.
'The more Muslims freeing themselves from Islam and the yoke of Muhammad, the better.' ///

yes, they are, like the devotees of all religions they are indeed victims, brainwashed by their parents and the surrounding apparatus. It is a sad indictment of human kind that despite our demonstrable "intelligence" we still cannot shake off this silliness and generation upon generation continue to be infected. Yes I think he's bang on.

He's partly right.
> "opt for freedom"
It's a sad fact of most organised religions that many/most followers are brainwashed from birth to be followers of those religions. Some/many/most followers eventually come to realise this, and then they should be free to abandon that religion. But if they choose not to abandon it, then that's their free choice too.
It is not great that parents inflict organised religion on their children and it would be good if, over time, this happened less and less (and indeed in this country that has been the case for some time now). But parents inflict all sorts of badness, cruelty and harm on their children, often unwittingly, mostly legally, and religion falls into that IMO.
We can't make organised religion go away overnight, but it would be good if eventually we could.
A good start would be for the UK to become a secular state ...
