Trying To Trace Friend

I have an old friend who lived in Thailand for many years, used to keep regular contact and when I called 9 times out of 10 he answered within 30 seconds. But for several weeks now there is no answer at all on landline despite calling many times and when calling Mobile it comes up with a strange message saying "This number hasn't been allocated yet" so I'm thinking probably the worst may have happened and hes passed on, since he is 82 . So my question is is there some way I could find out perhaps through the British Embassy/Consulate in Thailand what happened to him or do they not give out information like that to non-relatives?

did he have a next of kin in Britain? A consulate would normally notify them.

Have you tried very simply googling his name? That’s how i found out my brother in law had died

Dont know his next of kin and yes googled it but nothing

im not sure that the British consulate would even have that informationrecord of comings and goings on hundreds and thousands of expats who're in the country?

Would the Salvation Army help with that sort of thing? I bet they could give you some tips at the very least.

No of course they wont keep tabs on everyone. But the point meant was if the worst had happened and he is deceased the Embassy would without doubt be involved..

Although that sounds to be aimed at transients rather than ex-pats. Will be worth contacting the embassy anyway, in my experience they are v helpful.

If he died in Thailand it is possible that his passport was returned to the Consulate. If he is still alive, and has lived in Thailand for many years, he must have had to renew his British passport at the British Consulate, so they may have some sort of record of his time there, address, etc
The British Consulate in Bangkok is infinitely helpful and experienced.
Worth a try.
