Mad Swindon Roundabout

Has anyone conducted any kind of study to see if that mega multi roundabout at Swindon was really necessary. Could it not have been made any simpler?

When brother and sister in law moved to Swindon a few years ago brother in law had to negotiate the magic roundabout to get to and from work and for a few weeks just followed the car in front hoping they were going the way he wanted to go. If not he turned round and followed the next car! LOL

There's one at Hemmel Hampsted too.

They're not as bad as they look. I think there was some research that showed accidents were lower than at equivilent junctions with lights etc. Probably because people are paying more attention.

Damn scary when you first go over one though. You see the signpost and think "Ohmigod what the heck's that!"
