I had the misfortune to visit one of my clients in Princes Street Edinburgh earlier today. She has a very smart office overlooking the gardens with superb views to the Castle and the Old City. However, this was totally countered by a lone bagpiper standing a good 600 yards away, huffing and puffing into his bloated tartan cushion and even through closed double glazing that grating, shrieking, whistle got through and set my nerves on edge for the entire interview. How is it permissible in a civilised society that we have to endure a terrible cacophony (similar to the strangling of a flock of pregnant sheep) in the business district of a city? Is this an infringement of my human rights to peace and quiet? Is it acceptable that my earspace is invaded in this way? Does anyone actually enjoy this instrument? Or are you, with me, of the belief that these discordant and deafening Caledonian inventions will be (unlike harps) the instruments of hell? Ban the burkha is so 2016...let's ban the bagpipes.

Waiting for the Scots on here to answer that.
well, it is Fringe season plus the bagpipes aren't necessarily purely Scottish.
The sound of Highland Cathedral played well on the bagpipes sends shivers down my spine, in the nicest possible way of course!
Wait till the Peruvian pan pipers get going. Normally on Princes street this time of year. A lot of the tourist expect to see the pipers..
Some of the pipers on the Streets are pretty rubbish. Can't beat a good pipe band.
Ruddy horrible things.
Let me Mull over your question on the island of Kintyre.
Apparently a piper plays at Balmoral first thing in the morning. I've often imagined Prince Philip at 6am after a few sherberts the night before shouting "Will you shut that bloody racket up, why can't we have a normal bloody alarmclock".
I love the pipes and actually have a CD in my car that I play a lot of.
I have it on my ring tone too.
I wouldn't have been piped into my wedding if I didn't like them.
The bagpipes is an instrument that a gentleman knows how to play but doesn't!
I know it's Fringe season when my side of the country becomes busking quiet.
I wanted to get married on the hillside with the pipes but hubby said no!!
He's playing for the American/ Japanese tourists, they love the pipes :-)
Hate them. I'd appreciate them at a wedding/funeral but not in general. Far too loud.
Islay, I have a wicked idea for your silver wedding anniversary now. :-)
Appears the pipes are like Marmite then.
I actually quite like them.

The instrument that SHOULD be banned, it being hated by parents nationwide is the bloody descant recorder.
Lol Alba you are wicked - but I like you!!
I love to hear a pipe band but generally not a great fan!
