If you had to slaughter your own animals?
In the past Ive had cause to 'put down' chickens, kittens, fish, gerbils, hamsters and other small animals (chickens when I worked on a farm and the others were sick pets) I could never imagine eating anything that Ive had to kill but I guess that makes me a hypocrite as I'll gladly eat pre-packed animals that someone else has been paid to slaughter. After all, a sausauge is not really a pig is it?
If you had to raise a lamb, and then take it from its mother, kill it, and then eat it would you?

just curious as to how we (as humans) love animals...as pets etc...but feel nothing about eating them.
Thanks.

i dont think so. but then ive never been hungry in that sense
I was a vegetarian from 8 to 21 years old anyway. I'm not sure it makes you a hypocrite not wanting to kill them... we all pay other people to do jobs that we can't, or don't want to do.
No would never dream of punishing myself by becoming vegetarian but then saying that there is a really good vegetarian range these days as in the old days being a veggie meant the choice of a nut cutlette or lentils as my day use to say lol.

Would cheerily slaughter my own meat/fish no problem, I think.

How do you put down a gerbil/hamster? Please don’t tell me “under me hob nailed boot” as I’d just die,lol
I am not sure I could really kill something, so that I was able to eat it afterwards. I can't even put down a mousetrap I'm afraid....I am a tad squeamish.

So, in the event of having to kill and eat, or eat veg, it would a case of "Hello Nut Roast" for me.
Can't stand the thought of me killing anything tbh, that's why I only shoot clays, you don't have to eat them. The thought of becoming a veggie fills me full of wind.
Yes, have done and when I retire I will do it again.
I will ensure the animals I rear for food are well looked after and I will then have them slaughtered and eat them.
It does not make me a hypocrite because I love and care for animals.
but that's not slaughtering it yourself islay
Bednobs I believe currently that we are not allowed to slaughter ourselves as there rules.
But if we are talking 'if' then yes I could.

This is what I don't get. If humans are natural carnivores then why do we have such a revulsion about going out and killing (and eating) a baby animal (baby animals been the most easy prey of carnivores).
And how can you 'love and care' for animals when the entire time you are cultivating them for slaughter?
Not been judgemental here...I eat meat...just curious. I don't get it?
you can legally kill animals for your own consumption (but i don't think i could)
"I can't even put down a mousetrap"

The mouse is caught but completely unharmed. Just release it back into the wild 100 yards or so from your property, and it's someone else's problem!
I couldn't slaughter an animal. Like Mikey I'm squeamish.

I could give up meat though...but not fish.

I'm the same Mikey,
Ive put down animals to STOP their suffering, not to cause it. And Yet I still eat animals....
Doesn't make you a hypocrite any more than someone who couldn't face performing surgery on someone, who goes to hospital for surgery that corrects a health problem they have.

Thus "should have to kill your own meat" claim is pure nonsense brought up by vegetarians/vegans manipulating the fact that in civilised society many of us grow up soft, isolated from the realities of nature in order to make out they've made some point.

We all contribute to society according to our strengths/weaknesses. If I had to kill my own meat I'd probably pay someone to do it for me, same as people paid me for my skills when I worked.

I really resent the time that I worked on a farm. I was young and wanted to work. BUT it taught me about the hyprocrisy of the human race. The treatment of animals is appauling.
Anyway fishing ain't difficult. Nor, I suspect, is killing at a distance with rifle.
Well I couldn't do it and meat is my favourite food. Now had I been brought up a farmer's daughter then maybe. So if I reared a lamb it would become a pet..
Quick question for those wanting “humane” deaths for animals, would a guillotine be classed as humane if the animal was put in one To feed before having the chop? Six nailit, didn’t want to start another thread on what’s the same subject kinda.
Sorry not six, lol
